How Donations Are Used
Because we don’t have a building or pay rent, or have any salaried positions our administration costs are spare. Here are examples of some of the costs that are covered by donations.
$25 covers the cost of the website hosting and maintenance for a month.
$70 covers the cost of a monthly telephone bill, on average.
$150 covers the cost of one orchestral musician’s performance. (In a typical
performance there may be between 25 and 65 members of the orchestra.)
$250 is the estimated cost of a newspaper advertisement announcing a performance.
Beyond that our other main expense is the prize money for the Paul Robeson Vocal Competition, now in its 17th year.
$250 – Third Prize
$500 – Second Prize
$1000 – First prize
This competition and prize money has helped the careers of many vocalists over the years including Denyce Graves and Deetra Battle.
Ticket prices do not cover the production or administration costs. Public donations have allowed us to bring Concerts of musical excellence, professionally performed, to the heart of the Washington DC community for 30 years.
